Welcome to the Ultra web

logo picture for this lab Welcome to the Ultrasound Imaging Laboratory, located at the Chester F. Carlson Center for Imaging Science, Rochester Institute of Technology.

Ultrasound imaging is a mode of imaging based on the interaction of high-frequency sound waves with different materials. In the pulse-echo modality, the return echoes are processed to produce a cross-sectional image of the structure under investigation. In the pitch-catch modality the transmitted signal is utilized to investigate the structure.

We conduct research in the traditional immersion mode as well as non-contact imaging. Even though our main focus is on medical applications of ultrasonography, we are involved as well in industrial applications include thin films, coatings, paper, etc.
